Voting FAQs

  • On the ballot you will be voting for (1) Mayor, and (1) Regional Councillor and (1) Local Town Councillor for your ward (ME for Centre Ward!) along with the number of designated trustees based on the School Board you support.

  • Through the Town’s website: https://www.whitby.ca/town-hall/municipal-elections/voters/ there is an interactive map that shows the boundaries for each ward. You can put in your address to confirm which ward you live in (hopefully it’s Centre Ward :)).

  • For Centre Ward, Advance Poll (October 22-25) locations will be the Abilities Centre and Whitby Town Hall. Through the Town’s ‘Vote Anywhere” system, you can vote anywhere across the Town on Election Day (October 26). Centre Ward Election Day locations will be C.E Broughton Public School, E.A Fairman Public School, Julie Payette Public School and Whitby 55+ Recreation Centre.

  • To confirm or add yourself to the Voter’s List please go to https://www.registertovoteon.ca/ by August 12, 2026.

  • YES! You are encouraged to do so! You may vote during Advance Polls or Election Day. If you’re not on the Voter’s List or have ID showing a qualifying address you may complete the required documentation at the voting location.

  • The Town has a Special Mail-In Ballot option which is outlined through the Voters Guide on the Town’s website (https://www.whitby.ca/town-hall/municipal-elections/voters/) It includes detailed instructions on how to submit the application and key dates.

During this election, residents will have the opportunity to vote for a dedicated Local Town Councillor AND a Regional Councillor for Centre Ward, along with the Mayor. What does this mean - let’s explore!

Durham Region is a two-tier municipality which means we have Local Councillors who sit on their municipality’s council across the 8 municipalities along with Regional Councillors and Mayors who sit on both Local and Regional Council.

Local government (what I’m running for) takes care of day-to-day operations such as:

  • By-law enforcement

  • Fire services

  • Local roads and traffic

  • Parks, recreation and culture

  • Planning and zoning

  • Animal control

Regional government takes care of services across the region such as:

  • Emergency services & management (Policy and Paramedics)

  • Major infrastructure

  • Housing and homelessness

  • Social services

  • Public health

  • Water and major infrastructure

  • Transit
